Walt Stanchfield was a renowned American animator, instructor, and author in the animation industry. He started his career as an artist in Walt Disney Studios in the 1950s, where he worked on several classic animated films such as Sleeping Beauty, Peter Pan, and Cinderella.
During his tenure at Disney, Stanchfield started sharing his knowledge and insights about animation and drawing with his colleagues through informative lectures and drawing workshops. He believed that every animator must possess not only technical skills but also a deep understanding of life and human emotions to create compelling and realistic animations.
In the 1970s, Stanchfield left Disney and started teaching animation and drawing classes at several art institutions such as Art Center College of Design and Chouinard Art Institute. He continued to influence and inspire many aspiring animators and artists through his teachings until his passing in 2000.
Stanchfield's teachings and philosophies continue to influence contemporary animators and artists, especially his belief that "Animation, like music, should have a sense of rhythm, a sense of movement grace, and dignity."
